Paula McCandlis is a part-time United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Washington State. She is also a shareholder and co-managing partner at Brett McCandlis & Brown, PLLC with offices throughout Washington State (Bellingham, Mt. Vernon, Everett, Seattle, Vancouver and Spokane). In Federal Court she presides over criminal matters two days a month and primarily reviews search warrant requests for matters arising north of Seattle. Her private practice focuses on personal injury and wrongful death cases. In addition to personal injury and wrongful death cases, Ms. McCandlis has spent 20 years working as a trial attorney on cases that range from criminal law, family law, juvenile law, civil commitments, real estate transactions and appellate law. She has worked as a Pro Tem Commissioner for both Municipal Court and Superior Court. Ms. McCandlis has certifications to act as a mediator in civil cases with additional training for family law cases. Prior to obtaining her J.D. degree from Gonzaga University School of Law, she majored in Philosophy with an emphasis on Legal Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is the past president of the Whatcom County Bar Association and previously served on a variety of community non-profit boards (Brigid Collins, Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, LAW Advocates, and the Rotary Club of Bellingham).
